Laser hair removal still isn't appropriate for every skin tone. On very dark skin, the laser has a harder time distinguishing between pigment in the hair follicle and pigment in the surrounding skin, which raises the risk of burns, blistering, and pigment changes, regardless of which laser platform is used. For this reason, Sia Clinic does not perform laser hair removal on patients with very dark skin tones. Skin tone is assessed at your consultation before any treatment is scheduled.

How the Treatment Works

Laser hair removal targets the pigment (melanin) inside the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by that pigment, heats the follicle, and damages it enough to slow or prevent future hair growth.

This is why a single session is never enough, most patients need a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart to catch all the hair follicles as they cycle through growth.
